For our visit in Novmeber 2007 we decided to split our visit - the first half of the week would be in Paso Chico, somewhere we had stayed before so we knew what to expect and the second half in the new Sheraton. We transferred on the Wednesday and as soon as we walked in our room we knew luxury had finally arrived on Gran Canaria.
So what makes it so special? Well, look at the bed for a start – a Sheraton Sweet Sleeper Bed (LINK), loads and loads of fluffy, white towels, a lounge area, two large balconies with not a piece of white plastic in sight, two bathrooms with constant hot water and walk-in showers, air-conditioning that works and is quiet…….

The breakfast buffet is one of the best I’ve seen in a hotel and the lunchtime and evening menus are pretty good as well.
The hotel itself is set in the mountinas and is very peaceful. This is where the potential disadvantages show themselves - it’s a 10-15 minute taxi ride to the Yumbo centre, costing between 12 and 15 Euros depending on the time of day. Is it worth it, though? Well, the fact that we’ll be returning in January and at Easter should answer that one.
